Slightly further afield are Adare (2½ hours), Lahinch (3 hours) and the Old Head of Kinsale (2 hours).

NEARBY ATTRACTIONS: As regards attractions, Killarney is second to few. Killarney is ideal for touring the scenic Southwest of Ireland. The Lakes of Killarney are on the doorstep of the hotel, while Muckross House and Torc Waterfall are less than 15 minutes away. Killeen House is also perfect for touring the Dingle Peninsula, the Ring of Kerry, the Gap of Dunloe, Beara Peninsula and for kissing the legendary Blarney Stone. Killarney, by the way, is also perfect for the shopping enthusiast.

Killeen House Hotel, set in the scenic Aghadoe area overlooking the Lakes of Killarney, is just 10 minutes drive from the centre of Killarney and only 5 minutes from Killeen and Mahony’s Point golf courses. Conrad Hilton once declared that the 3 most important criteria for any hotel were Location, Location and Location. This being true, then he must have had the Aghadoe area in mind, given the scenic beauty of the surrounding countryside.

In 1992, Michael and Geraldine Rosney purchased Killeen House. Having had extensive experience in the hospitality industry, they had little doubt about the attractiveness of the property. Geraldine & Michael personally welcome all guests and appear to have a degree in making people feel welcome. This charming little hotel which is set in 1½ acres of beautifully manicured gardens was originally built in 1838 as Archdeacon Nathaniel P. Forester’s rectory. It was entirely renovated in 1990 and now enjoys the charm and elegance of the early 19th century alongside the comfort and convenience of the late 20th century.

The orientation of Killeen House to golfing holidays is evident from the walls of its quaint bar. Over 6,500 (last count) golf balls decorate the walls of the bar. Travelling golfers from all over the world have contributed their logo balls to what now forms an integral part of Killeen House Hotel. So whether you’re staying there or just visiting, bring a ball from your local club and be a part of the history of Killeen House.
